This paper gives a comparative analysis of face detection techniques. An overview of general information regarding various face detection techniques is given. These techniques are preferred based on the application. The techniques used are the Haar-based technique, Multi-Task Cascaded Convolutional Neural Networks (MTCNN)-based technique and Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) + Support Vector Machine (SVM). These techniques are compared based on occlusion, normal condition and low lighting. As face detection is an important step towards automatic face recognition, the main purpose of this paper is to elucidate the approach that is a good candidate for face detection.
