With the continuous innovation of Internet of Things (IoT) applications, broadcasting plays as an essential message sharing role in smart city paradigms such as intelligent transportation, medical monitoring, emergency broadcasting. However, most of the IoT devices are resource-constrained and vulnerable to physical attack, more and more unauthorized message broadcast, modification, disclosure, destruction phenomena occur due to the concomitant key leakage issue which limits the application potential of message broadcasting. In this paper, a PUF-based lightweight broadcast authentication protocol for the IoT in multi-server systems using blockchain is proposed to ensure the security of the authenticated broadcast message. As an emerging physical security mechanism, physical unclonable functions (PUFs) are utilized to provide a lightweight key agreement and authentication method for the resource-constrained IoT devices, which can reduce the overhead of cryptographic computation and effectively resist physical attacks. The blockchain is regard as a distributed database to manage the authentication materials for the IoT device and also has the ability to resist the message tampering and single-point failure. Besides, the Chinese remainder theorem (CRT) is applied to provide an address mapping, which can ensure the security of the PUFs responses. The final security simulation result was carried out by using AVISPA shows that our protocol resists multifaceted attacks.
