In the present contribution, we analyze the detri-mental effects of a jammer on the energy efficiency (EE) performance of an ambient backscatter communication (ABC)-assisted cognitive radio (CR) system. The performance tradeoff of interest lies between opportunities of transmission for a CR transmitter and improvement in throughput due to the usage of ABC, which impact the EE. We derive analytical expressions for the average power consumption and average throughput of the CR system, considering all possibilities of presence of the primary user (PU), presence of jammer and the CR sensing outcome. Maximization of EE is posed as a optimization problem, which includes PU interference and imperfect sensing constraints. Additionally, we present numerical results which demonstrate the performance gain of the proposed model in terms of EE.
