Ayesha Hena Afzal · 2022
The aim of this chapter is to focus on developing a research framework which explains IoT services, why the security of IoT services is so critical, and its application in the contemporary world. It is the time of the Internet of Things (IoT), wherever the digitally-connected devices impact on all aspects of our lives, our homes, offices, cars, and even our bodies. IoT is growing at a dangerously fast pace and researchers estimate that imminently the quantity of active wireless connected devices will exceed 40 billion. As the Internet plays a vital role in our everyday lives, so through this chapter an attempt is made to introduce the future vision of the Internet where every user, computing device, and various day-to-day objects lead to improvement in possessing sensing and actuating capabilities. Security and privacy are the key issues in IoT applications and still enormous challenges are being faced regarding this. This chapter mainly focuses on the IoT vision, and its related existing security challenges and threats. There are numerous mechanisms to overcome these problems, each having their advantages and limitations. Biometrics is one of the strongest mechanisms to deal with IoT threats. There are numerous types of biometrics, fingerprint, iris, DNA, face, and retina. This chapter discusses the current state of IoT security requirements, future research, and various mechanisms that favor IoT security and privacy to overcome the limitations of existing security systems.
