In this work, we analyze the outage performance of a proposed Two-Stage Relay Selection in a Rayleigh fading environment with a source-destination pair and multiple intermediate Decode-and-Forward (DF) relay nodes in between. Initially, we derive outage probability for a multihop relay network with Maximum Ratio Combining (MRC). Later, a system model for two-stage relay selection is proposed with Max-Min Selection Combining (SC) to reduce the complexity of the MRC based model. Concisely, from the simulation results it has been observed that the two-stage relay selection SC model achieves better results at a low average Signal-to-Noise ratio (SNR) in comparison with the MRC model in terms of outage probability.
