Wireless Sensor Network Routing Algorithm Based on Traffic Prediction for Internet of Thing

Baoying Wang · 2021

The booming economic development in wireless sensor networks (WSNs), especially the advanced technology in electronic communications, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Big Data, has attracted great attention. Thus, we propose the traffic prediction-based WSN routing algorithm (TP-WSNRA) for the IoT. First, the nodes in the WSN are clustered. Based on the neural network (NN) prediction model, the traffic load of the nodes at the next moment is calculated and the path quality is optimized according to cluster head selection. Then, the best next-hop is chosen by nodes to avoid network congestion and optimize network performance. Compared with the algorithm without traffic prediction, the simulation results show that the algorithm in this study improves the packet delivery rate by about 10%, and the average end-to-end delay based on TP-WSNRA is reduced by about 19%.
