Blockchain Assisted Secure Data Sharing in Intelligent Transportation Systems

Blockchain is one of the most promising emerging technologies in recent times, which uses secured data that is driven from vehicles, making the Intelligent Transportation System ( ITS ) economically efficient. In the blockchain system, data consistency in the nodes is maintained by the consensus mechanism which adds one more defense against attacks. Blockchain technology in the ITS provides privacy and safety to the user. In this chapter, the prime focus is on the combination of blockchain technology with the Internet of vehicles to modify the ITS for creating a better-integrated system with decentralization and security measures. The ITS having the structured layout of blockchain prevents unauthorized system access and also guards user's privacy. This chapter highlights the major role of blockchain in securing data and explores blockchain-assisted ITS for implementing security and privacy. Finally, the chapter investigates and explores various future research opportunities related to the role of blockchain technology in the ITS.
