eBay plans for 6 MW of Bloom SOFCs to power new data centre

California-based eBay has announced plans to build the next phase of its flagship data centre with renewable energy as its primary power source, in partnership with Bloom Energy. The online auction giant says that the new facility will be the largest non-utility fuel cell installation in the US – rated at 6 MW, and hence exceeding the 4.8 MW system (also from Bloom Energy) at Apple's new data centre in Maiden, North Carolina, which is currently under construction [ FCB , May 2012, p11].
