SRv6 VPN

Zhenbin Li, Zhibo Hu, Cheng Li · 2021

This chapter describes VPN services, including SRv6 L3VPN and SRv6 EVPN, which are also fundamental to SRv6 services. In SRv6 VPN, a VPN instance can be identified by an SRv6 SID, which the people will describe later. The Value field in the BGP Prefix-SID attribute contains one or more TLVs used to implement various functions, such as the multiple types of SRv6 Services TLVs mentioned in this book. SRv6 is categorized into SRv6 BE and SRv6 TE by service path type. Therefore, the principles of L3VPN over SRv6 BE and L3VPN over SRv6 TE are described separately. The implementation of L3VPN over SRv6 BE involves the control plane protocol workflow and data plane forwarding workflow. Unlike traditional L2VPN, EVPN runs BGP to advertise MAC addresses, which means the MAC address learning and advertisement is shifted from the data plane to the control plane.
