Latest NIST specs for ID cards include iris recognition and finger swipe

US standards body, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has released a draft of proposed specifications for iris and on-card fingerprint recognition. This comes as NIST works on updating its technical specifications for biometric data to be used on ID cards for government employees and contractors. NIST is also working on improving identification for consumers on the web but as yet does not appear to be including biometrics in that work.
