From Syntax to Semantics in Foreign Language CAI

It was in 1975 that the University of Delaware began using the PLATO 1 system. A small beginning—two terminals—soon grew into a major commitment, with more than two hundred student terminals and participation by more than thirty academic departments. Somewhere early in this process I began to explore the system&s;s potential for supporting instruction in Latin. That dalliance eventually led to six programs—close to a hundred hours of instruction in the aggregate.
