4G Mobile Communications

3G mobile systems either are currently being or will be soon deployed (from 2001 to 2004) in different regions of the world. Certainly, there will be a huge potential market in 3G in the world, simply since it can provide wideband multimedia services with data rate up to 2Mbps. However, with both economic growth and technology development of the world, multimedia services with even higher data rate (i.e. 20Mbps) will be necessary. Discussions on 4G mobile communications have already been started today in the world. Therefore, extensive international R&D and standardization activities are required to solve many technical challenges. In this chapter, the forecast of mobile communications and key techniques of 4G will be presented.
