Encoders

In this chapter we begin with a discussion of linear encoders. We then present a brief history and discuss its construction. Next, we consider absolute versus incremental encoders, optical encoders and magnetic encoders. Later, we discuss quadrature, binary versus gray code, and electronics. The chapter concludes with typical performance specifications.
