Overview of System and Performance Modeling
Kluwer Academic Publishers eBooks · 2005
SummaryThis chapter has presented the fundamental concepts for performance modeling of operating systems. A model is an abstraction of a system. A performance model is a model developed to study the performance of a system. The main type of system studied in this book is the general-purpose operating system. The three common techniques for performance evaluation are: measurements, analytical models, and simulation models. The performance evaluation of operating systems will be carried out with simulation models. The most important performance measures are throughput, average response time, and CPU utilization.
