Password hacks show major sites are vulnerable

The leaking of passwords from three major websites has highlighted the dangers of poor password protection practices. LinkedIn, eHarmony and Last.fm all suffered breaches within a few days of each other, leading some pundits to suggest either common weaknesses or the same attackers, although there's so far no evidence to support either contention.
