sick leave at two years were more previous sick-leave, active use of sedatives at the time of surgery and surgically acquired deficits.The rates of antidepressant (10.1%) and sedative use (4.8%) at two years after surgery were not significantly different compared to controls.Conclusion: VS surgery results in relatively low rates of long-term sick-leave, and does not result in elevated rates of long-term antidepressant or sedative use.Long-term sick-leave was associated with postoperative neurological sequelae, underpinning the importance of safe surgery.
