Medical image enhancement is an essential pre-processing technique. This chapter demonstrates the need for image enhancement procedures with the help of appropriate experimental results attained with MATLAB software. The need for illustration improvement is outlined and the well-known methods such as artifact removal, filtering, contrast enhancement, edge detection, thresholding, and smoothening are discussed briefly. Recent advancement in image enhancements such as hybrid image assessment technique is also presented with experimental results. For each procedure, a suitable simulation result is briefly presented and discussed using grayscale and RGB scale medical pictures.
