Software Factory Template: Development Core Assets

Apress eBooks · 2006

SummaryIn this chapter, we showed two important concepts of how to support developers in their activities to implement product line members. One was guidance and automation, the other domain-specific modeling. Both concepts can be used to support the configuration and assembly of core assets, to implement product line variabilities, and to create extensions to the Software Factory. Together with the development of application core assets, as discussed in the previous chapter, this represents a coherent strategy for building a Software Factory template that can be packaged and installed into the development environment of application developers. Our main goal in the past two chapters was to highlight the close relationship between the Software Factory schema and the most important aspects of the Software Factory template. Through our case study we provide a proof of concept with concrete examples of how this actually can be realized. Even though we were only able to touch briefly on each topic, with the provided references you should quickly find further in-depth information. For ISpySoft, the Software Factory template concludes the development of its Software Factory (at least the first iteration). This finally allows us to build the first ISpySoft product line member and start reaping the benefits that the investment into the Software Factories approach promises.
