Wake-up radio (WuR) enabled wireless sensor networks (WSNs) attain significantly higher energy efficiency, and are considered to be a striking architecture in Internet of Things (IoT). In this architecture, data transmission can be triggered either by transmitter or receiver, in an on-demand manner. Receiver-initiated medium access mechanisms have inherent advantages for gaining higher throughput and energy efficiency. In this paper, we present a receiver-initiated QoS-Aware Multi-hop wake-up radio enabled MAC protocol (RQAM-WuR) for WSNs. RQAM-WuR mainly focuses on the challenges caused due to multi-hop transmission. We present a traffic load aware duty cycle mechanism as well as wake-up schedule scheme that in one hand aim to achieve higher energy efficiency, and in another hand, reduce end-to-end latency following a staggered wake-up schedule. RQAM-WuR also employs segregated data transmission for diverse traffic to lower packet loss due to collision. The performance of the proposed protocol is evaluated through simulations which demonstrate its effectiveness.
