Electrical guidance
Physics Bulletin · 1978
A group of workers at the Naval Research Laboratories, Washington, has used plasma 'channels' in air produced by CO 2 lasers to guide electrical pulses up to 2 m in the laboratory. Such current-carrying channels might be useful for transporting relativistic electron beams in pellet-fusion reactors; transporting high energy electrons from the diode to the pellets forming the target is a major problem in relativistic electron-beam driven inertial confinement fusion.
