Implementations of online laboratory systems can include the use of distributed remote laboratory stations that can be accessed remotely from different locations. The security of these distributed architectures that combine software and hardware is a concern for designers, implementers and most importantly. for users of these systems. Security measures, such as access control, data encryption, traffic monitoring among others, are commonly implemented. However, there still exist vulnerabilities that can be exploited by ill-intentioned people. In order to protect the user's information, and the integrity of hardware and software platforms, it's crucial to implement protections in multiple levels of the system. This paper presents a general context of the technology used in terms of protocols of communication that support the operation of online laboratory systems, additionally, an implementation of a scheme of communication that makes use of the MQTT-S protocol is presented which was successfully implemented for the context of online laboratory systems.
