What Are Cloud Business Concerns?
Roger McHaney · 2021
Cloud computing has a complex business model that transforms the way accountants and financial managers view the cost of IT. Several tools exist to support business operations in areas such as monitoring and consoles, service level agreements, and subscriptions/billing. This chapter looks at these areas and provides insight into the business side of cloud computing with an emphasis on cost and usage considerations. It also looks at cost considerations and performance/monitoring in more detail. Monitoring and console tools provide several important functions in cloud computing. It is important for an organization to determine their needs and then match their requirements to a tool that fills most. The chapter explores organizational needs, then focuses on tools that specialize in these areas. It further looks briefly at how cloud providers approach billing. The chapter shows that nearly all cloud service providers use the utility billing approach to charge for services.
