Wavelet Transform

Alfred Mertins · 2001

Chapter 8 covers the wavelet transform. It starts with a discussion of continuous-time wavelet transforms and their use for time-scale analysis. Also reconstruction methods such as the integral, semi-discrete, and discrete reconstruction are presented. The remainder of the chapter considers the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and presents concepts including multiresolution analysis, wavelet analysis and synthesis by multirate filtering, construction of wavelets from filter banks, regularity, wavelets with finite support, wavelet families such as Daubechies and Coiflet wavelets, and the a trous Algorithm. Applications such as DWT-based image compression and wavelet-based denoising are also covered.
