For solving the problem of co-channel interference on the wireless sensor network (WSN), the radio on-demand WSN using MC-CDMA with Modified Pseudo Orthogonal M-sequences Sets (MPOMS) has been proposed. However, there are still the performance degradation caused by co-channel interference and the battery longevity problem. In this paper, a new on-demand WSN system, which has low power based mode (down mode), is proposed for solving the above problems. Moreover, average power consumption characteristics of the proposed system taking into account PSR is evaluated. Consequently, it is found that energy performance is improved and there is an optimal down mode ratio in the proposed system. It is shown that average power consumption per cycle is 8/15 times smaller than the conventional system when the number of sensor nodes in a same group (Ns) is 10. Also, the optimal down ratio is 0.9 when Eb/N0= 10[dB] and Ns= 25.
