The student will analyze signatures and determine which ones have been forged. Signing person&s;s name is the most common type of forgery. There are three ways a person may forge a name. A traced forgery is done when a real signature is traced onto a different document. In a simulated forgery, the forger carefully writes the name freehand by looking at the real signature. The last type of forgery is known as a blind forgery. In this type of forgery, the forger uses his own handwriting to sign someone else&s;s name. He makes no effort to disguise his handwriting and may not even know what the genuine signature looks like. No matter what type of forgery is used, experts refer back to the 12 basic handwriting characteristics to examine the forged signature.
