A holistic approach for 5G Network Slice Monitoring

Network slicing, i.e., multiple virtual networks running on a common infrastructure, is considered a key mechanism to serve the multitude of tenants (e.g. vertical industries) targeted by forthcoming 5th generation mobile network (5G) systems, in a flexible and cost-efficient manner. In order to ensure that the services running on their slice are working as expected, the verticals need intelligent and comprehensive monitoring data. In this paper, we propose a monitoring framework, which follows the Monitoring-as-a-Service model, offers a holistic telemetry image to the vertical and works in a plug-and-play manner. This framework uses a set of free open-source monitoring tools and offers a real time monitoring service to the user, enabling data aggregation and visualization for experimentation and service level assurance.
