Faraj N. Alhapony, Ahmad M. Bkkar, Khalil G. Almogassipi · 2021

Software-Defined Networking (SDN) architecture has three main layers, which are Application, Controller, and Infrastructure layers. SDN provides the programmability and the automation in the network elements configurations compared to traditional networks. The main principle behind SDN is the physical separation of the network control plane from the forwarding plane, where a single control plane controls several devices. In this work we conducts SDN research and implemented a three layers model for SDN by using OpenFlow Manager App as an application layer which is categorized to be an SDN Network Management and traffic engineering using web GUI, Open Daylight Controller as a controller layers which is an Open source controller and as an infrastructure layer we used Mininet software which provides the ability to create a network switches and hosts in less than minute to prove the automation and centrality in the SDN architecture.
