RPL is accepted as the standard routing protocol for IOT by Internet Engineering Task Force during March 2012. RPL considerably deals with IOT network requirements, still there are, many issues to solve, since it is not initially designed for IOT applications. In this paper an attempt has been made to address some of the parameters like energy usage, delay in the transmission, delivery probability in IOT Routing. A new node replacement strategy which considers energy and context aware routing algorithm, where remaining energy of the node, along with the rank of the node, and expected transmission count is considered while selecting a best parent when a particular dead node is being replaced. The simulation results shows that the new algorithm has better performance compared to basic RPL in terms of path length, end to end delay, residual energy, ETX, Transmission count, data packet sent and received, delivery probability, packet drop count, number of nodes died during simulation. The evaluation leads to a better decision about the proper choice of parent with high traffic dynamicity rather than deciding merely based on the parent rank.
