Methods for increasing the accuracy of calculating the service quality characteristics of a telecommunication network with self-similar traffic due to a more accurate determination of the Hurst coefficient depending on the parameters of the Weibull and Pareto distribution form are investigated. Since self-similar traffic is best described by the Weibull or Pareto distribution, it is for them that a new formula for calculating the traffic self-similarity coefficient was obtained. This method makes it possible to calculate the quality of service (QoS) characteristics of self-similar traffic described by Weibull or Pareto distributions in a single-channel fBM/D/1/∞ system with discrete customer service time is much easier. This simplicity is explained by the fact that for the calculation it is necessary to know only the parameter$a$of the Weibull or Pareto distribution form and there is no need to calculate the Hurst self-similarity coefficient for traffic using a rather complicated and laborious method (for example, using the R/S-statistics method). The use of real functional dependencies${H}$and$a$makes it possible to increase the accuracy of calculating the quality of service characteristics by an order of magnitude.
