Problem Trees

Problem trees help UX researchers to map out an issue in an effort to better understand its roots as well as its effects. In this chapter, we explain how to create a problem tree with a team, visualizing potential causes as “roots” and possible effects as “leaves.” With the core problem acting as the “trunk” of the tree, creating a problem tree allows researchers to realize not only what may be causing an issue but also the many ways this issue may be affecting usage.
