5G is expected to account for a large portion of the global mobile industry over the following years. The media vertical sector is expected to be one of the leading adopters of 5G technology, due to its 100x faster gigabit-per-second speeds, ultra-low latencies and higher-reliability compared to 4G connectivity, as media mobile app developers can truly push the boundaries on features and functionality in any novel mobile application. However, 5G networks present challenges (such as security and privacy issues, setup of viable 5G-based mobile app business models, testing and verification issues) to media application developers. To address the above needs and challenges 5GMediaHUB aims to build and operate an elastic, secure, trusted, all-in-one, multi-tenant service execution and NetApps development environment based on an open cloud-based architecture and APIs, by developing and integrating a testing and validation system with existing well-established 5G testbeds, for enabling the fast prototyping, testing and validation of novel 5G media services and NetApps, thus reducing the entry barrier to 3rd party media application testers (from SMEs, service providers, researchers, etc.).
