The Internet of Things is evolving as the foundation of building smart applications which can provide comfort and efficiency to us. The major goal of IOT smart devices is to provide the automation services using internet. It ranges from fit bands to complete industrial and agricultural digitalization using internet. The Internet of Things is composed of a huge and complex network of smart devices which exchange crucial data over the internet. It has been found that these smart applications are vulnerable for security threats because of their limited storage and computation capacity. As IOT devices are generally small, it becomes difficult to use traditional encryption in the IOT network and is omitted many times making it attack-prone. Due to the flexibility and openness required for the IOT applications, it also makes it an easy target for the attackers. Therefore, there is a crucial need of Network Intrusion Detection Systems for the IOT applications which can mitigate these limitations. This chapter presents a comprehensive study about emerging IOT threats and energy-efficient NIDS (Network Intrusion Detection Systems) techniques designed for the IOT applications.
