As a decentralized, open, and verifiable technology, blockchain is widely perceived to facilitate construction industry transformation and upgrading. In view of this, blockchain in construction engineering has increasingly captured the attention of scholars and practitioners in recent years. This paper aims to address research into blockchain applications in the field of construction engineering by offering a thorough overview of the application status. Based on resources from the Web of Science, ASCE, and CNKI database, we first analyze the chronology distribution of relevant topic literature using the bibliometric method. Then, we divide the application scenarios of blockchain in the construction industry. On the strength of data collected from journal papers, conference papers, and web pages, we conduct a content analysis of classified topics, identify implementation obstacles, and give development suggestions. By showing a comprehensive understanding of the application status of blockchain in construction engineering, we also provide inspiration for subsequent studies.
