Interactive music
Andrew Coggan · Focal Press eBooks · 2021
This chapter covers several different techniques and methods to create, edit, and implement interactive music inside the 3D GameKit. It explains various approaches to implement one&s;s own music in the game and provide analysis and examples of interactive music used in many games that are no doubt already familiar with. Interactive music is practically considered a requirement in professional video games; the majority of modern video games will feature some kind of dynamic music systems that use adaptive or interactive music in a variety of ways. Diegetic music is music that the playable character would hear in the gameworld itself. Games like Grand Theft Auto V and L.A. Noire are 3D simulations of semi-realistic worlds. Both games include a driving mechanic where players travel around the map between missions. Music systems, like all other areas in gaming, have grown increasingly complex and been put to new and creative uses with every subsequent release.
