Chapter 6 takes the reader through the process of implementing a design. The lighting designer must plan and prepare, develop good communication skills, and persist fearlessly until the project is over. Even so, an ability to embrace and celebrate what cannot be known or controlled is what makes this family of career paths so fulfilling. Do and Adapt takes the reader through a the skills necessary to plan for and execute a good focus call, set lighting cues, manage technical rehearsals, and eventually to let go and let their creation breathe. The chapter incorporates a rich pot of tips, tricks, and stories to put the new lighting designer on the path to success. A “Trailheads” map guides the reader to more about the topics that interest them.
