Integrating EDMS,) and DBMS's

Database management systems (DBMS) have been an integral part of information technology (IT) and the systems development lifecycle since the 1960s. The majority of IT professionals would not consider developing even the most simple of applications without employing some kind of DBMS to manage the data. The ultimate database design will not only depend on the results of the data analysis activity but also on the choice of DBMS. Good design does not just depend on knowledge of the specific data requirements of a particular application or the general information requirements of an organization. The new capabilities of a document-based system allow the adjuster, when the document is received, to attach a few still photo shots of the automobile along with further comments and the detailed cost estimates supplied by the body shop. The DBMS in many of these document management systems has evolved beyond simple metadata which just houses pointers to content documents.
