Subjective Evaluation of the Inharmonicity of Synthetic Piano Tones.

The influence of accurate reproduction of inharmonicity on the perceived quality of piano tones was investigated.Acoustic piano tones were resynthesized by changing the bandwidth of correct positioning of partials.Out of that bandwidth the partials were kept at a constant distance.Cutoff frequencies for different pitches could be established, and these results are applicable to the design of dispersive resonators in sound synthesis by physical modeling.
