Grid at the Interface of Industry and Research

MICHAEL M. RESCH · Grid Computing · 2007

Grid environments are typically designed for a specific field of application. We see on the one hand Grids in which a certain group of scientists collaborate. A good example is the large hadron collider Grid (LHC-Grid) [ 17 ]. On the other hand there are internal Grids in industry that meet the requirements of a certain company only. The key challenge lies in combining the two communities to create a Grid that is truly interdisciplinary and ubiquitous. This paper describes an approach that has been taken at the Hochstleistungsrechenzentrum Stuttgart (HLRS) and has proven to be successful over the last ten years.
