Linking 2-spheres in the 4-sphere

In this paper, we shall show that every (piecewise-linear or smooth) link of two 2-spheres S 2 u S 2 in the 4-sphere S 4 can be separated by a homotopy which keeps the components disjoint.This result is a solution to the problem proposed by Dale Rolfsen at the Canadian Math.Soc.Annual Meeting, June 1983.Throughout the paper, we work in the piecewise-linear category, consisting of simplicial complexes and piecewise-linear maps.
