Implementation of Asynchronous Communication for ForSyDe in Hardware and Software

Jonas Sicking · 2005

ForSyDe is a methodology developed to simplify development of embedded systems. Development is first done in a high level of abstraction formal language which is then mapped into low level hardware or software or a combination of both. To keep development in ForSyDe simple the communication and calculation in the language is kept very simple. In this thesis we have looked at a few possible mappings of the ForSyDe communication signals. Primarily we have looked at using asynchronous hardware communication channels. We have proved that this is both doable and practical by using synchronization components before and after the channel. We have also implemented components to allow communication between different clock domains, between hardware and software processes, and using busses. To verify that the developed components are both functional and practical an equalizer has been developed using the components and deployed on an FPGA. iii ivAcknowledgements This master thesis project was carried out at the Department of Microelectronics and Information
