Architecture of an image database system

In many practical systems, there is a growing need for the storage and management of image and pictorial data. There have been a number of approaches to the pictorial database retrieval problem, and recent surveys of image databases in general may be found. In the present approach, it is considered that, in the same way as a knowledge-based language like Prolog can be used to represent general as well as specific knowledge in a versatile manner, a suitable Picture Representation Language (PRL) may be developed to systematically encode knowledge about the contents of pictures, which can then the stored for subsequent processing
