Wavelets: A Brief Introduction
R. Todd Ogden · Birkhäuser Boston eBooks · 1997
This chapter gives an introductory treatment of the basic ideas concerning wavelets. The wavelet decomposition of functions is related to the analogous Fourier decomposition, and the wavelet representation is presented first in terms of its simplest paradigm, the Haar basis. This piecewise constant Haar system is used to describe the concepts of the multiresolution analysis, and these ideas are generalized to other types of wavelet bases. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
