On the nature and role of mathematical intuition

This paper discusses some of the issues surrounding the current notion of mathematical intuition and how these might be researched. The problem of providing a suitable definition of intuition is highlighted, as are the significant methodological challenges associated with researching the nature and role of mathematical intuition.
