Edge Detection and Segmentation

Jean‐Michel Morel, Sergio Solimini · Birkhäuser Boston eBooks · 1995

In this chapter, we shall give a short survey of the segmentation problem as it appears in the research in Computer Vision and introduce the main ideas which lead to the choice of a variational approach. The terms like edge, segmentation, region and boundary will not receive a single definition since several theories and algorithms for defining them will be compared. These terms will be therefore assumed, in the beginning of this chapter, in their heuristic meaning These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
