The carin car information and navigation system and the extension to carminat

Herman C Fernhout · 1987

The CARIN system is a completely self-contained car navigation system using a Compact Disc as a storage medium for the vector coded road map. Once knowing where the roads are, the performance of the dead reckoning navigation technique based on information from an electronic compass and a set of wheel-sensors is improved by map matching. An important part of the system is the user interface. When road safety is at stake, no concessions are made.
