The Rational Case

In this chapter, we will present some results on Toeplitz matrices with rational symbols. Then we will introduce the positive real lemma in systems theory. Finally, we will present some classical ergodic theorems, and show how they can be used to estimate the unitary part in the Wold decomposition of a controllable isometric representation.
