Artificial neural networks application in maritime, coastal, spare positioning system

Tomasz Praczyk · Theoretical and Applied Informatics · 2006

Currently, positioning at sea is dominated by satellite systems like GPS. However, there are situations in which we are not able to use these systems. Particularly, it concerns armed contlicts when navigational information could be deliberately deformed or encoded. Navy ships should take such potential seriously into consideration. The article presents an altemative way of acquiring navigational information, namely application of neural approximators which task is to fix ship's position on the basis of information obtained from navigational radar.
