Web Page for Data Acquisition by Accessing Local Computer Resources

This paper presents a web application for collecting medical data both by manual input and by bidirectional communication between the web server and medical devices connected to the USB port of the local computer. Web pages run in the browser and do not have access to local computer resources such as USB ports. This problem is solved by developing a windows service (which has access to the USB port) and which exposes a local web server (http://localhost:5000) that can be accessed via Ajax from the page running in the browser. Bidirectional communication between the browser and the public web server is implemented through SignalR technology.
