Native American Dice Games and Discrete Probability

Dice games were a common feature of Native American culture at the turn of the century. This essay reports on my examination of 40 Native American dice games described by James Culin (1992) in his two-volume 1907 work on Native American games from the point of view of discrete probability theory. I provide some initial answers to the question of whether or not the point values assigned to the outcomes of these games reflect the a priori probabilities of the outcomes. Introduction.
