Singularity Expansion Method in Radar Multimodal Signal Processing and Antenna Characterization

Nandan Bhattacharyya, Jawad Yaseen Siddiqui · 2021

Echo signals received from unknown objects have multiple modalities. This chapter aims to perform radar multimodal echo signal processing using singularity extraction method (SEM). It considers the physical aspects of singularities in radar echo signals. The chapter also considers two methods – one in the time domain and the other in the frequency domain – to extract the singularities from radar echos. As case studies, it presents the authors' contributions to singularity extraction and object identification for a conducting circular loop, sphere, and disc using the matrix pencil method of singularity expansion. The chapter elaborates and examines details regarding the SEM technique. SEM, as applied to antenna characterization, is also considered by examining relevant issues and important works on this topic. Further, it also examines the application of SEM for target identification in radar. Important issues and a review of relevant works on this topic are outlined.
